Understand what news editors look for in a good story, and where the national press sees public health issues in relation to their news agenda – presentation from UK journalist or news editor.
Understand how to use the media to help shape debates around public health issues and influence public policy
Understand principles of good communication when dealing with the press, including writing press releases, targeting them to the right audience, how to approach journalists and pitch ideas
Understand how to frame issues around communicating risk when dealing with complex public health issues involving science and uncertainty
Understand how and when to involve the media when reacting to incidents in the public eye involving PCT issues – interactive decision based exercise
