Our web site

This website provides up-to-date information to support the ongoing needs of current and prospective public health trainees, and their supervisors in the South West. It also provides a rapid way of communicating within the public health training community through its associated LISTSERV mail list.

The Faculty of Public Health Medicine defines public health as…”the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through organised efforts of society”.  This involves a broad range of activities, which can be grouped under the areas of health protection, health care and health improvement.

For professionals who wish to specialise in public health there is a multi-disciplinary training scheme in the South West, open to suitably qualified medical and non-medical applicants. It is normally 5 years in duration and consists of a mix of academic and service training.
